POLL: Should F1 listen to its drivers over race plans?
The coronavirus pandemic has caused widespread disruption to the world of sport a🔯nd resulted in a delayed start to the 2020 Formula 1 worldꦆ championship season.
After the season-opening Australian Grand Prix was cancelled following an outbreak of COVID-19 in the Melbourne paddock and subsequent postpone⛄ments to upcoming races in Bahrain, China and Vietnam, as well as major doubts lingering꧋ over the Dutch and Spanish grands prix in early May, the 2020 season is now expected to start in late May at the earliest.

F1’s bosses are currently engaging with health experts and officials on a♓ day-to-day basis in their attempts to thrash out a strong calendar with the aim of reachi🦩ng at least 16 or 17 races, which could result in F1 rewriting its own rules and scrapping the August summer break in order to reschedule some of the already called off rounds into those free weeks.
But should F1’s drivers be consulted and have a greater say in which races take place and within t✃he driver body, the Grand Prix Drivers’ Associ𓆏ation (GPDA)?
Six-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, along with the likes of Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel and Alfa Romeo’s Kimi Raikkonen, were the leading drivers questioning the sense in attempting to host the Melbourne race last weekend, with Hamilton suggesting F1’s p⛄ush to get the season underway was driven by financially-motivated means.
