Qatar Moto2: Acosta: 'My aim is to have fun', Fernandez pushing for title charge

Ahead of his first race in Moto2, Pedro Acosta is keeping the exact mindset that propelled him to the Moto3 title as a rookie; 'For my first season in the intermediate class, we aren't setting ourselves any goals. My only aim is to have fun at every Grand Prix'.

Despite topping the rec🍬ent Portimao Moto2 test, with a new lap record to boot, Pedro Acosta is solely thinking of having 'fun' during his 2022 rookie seas🦋on.

It's a mindset that paid off to tremendous effect last season as the Spaniard, often laid back and showing a relaxed demeanour, at least to those watching on, was able to take the Moto3 title at 🌠the first time of asking.

Acosta, who went nearly a full second quicker than Remy Gardner’s 2021 Portimao lap record during the three-day test, starts this weekend’s opening round in Qatar as a heavy favoꦰurite for the podium and maybe more, even if the 17 year-old is chཧoosing not to think about that.

"After the great work that we did during pre-season, we start the campaign with good feelings and a positive mentality," said Acos꧅ta.

"This year I know almost all the circuits, but, nevertheless, at many of them it will be my first time riding there with a Moto2, so we will have to p🉐ush hard to learn and understand how this class works.

"For my first season in the intermediate class, we aren't sett꧑ing ourselves any goals.

"My only aim is to have fun at every Grand Prix and work hard with the team, so that we can take🐬 steps forward day af⛎ter day."

On the other hand, Augusto Fernandez has made it clear that fighting for the title in what will be his fifth season is the 'ultimate go꧑al'.

Like Ac🔴osta, Fernandez was very impressive during testing as he finished second to his younger team-mate.

Fernandez addedꦗ: "I can't wait to start the season. Although we all want to win and be at the top, we have to think that this year there are 21 Grands Prix.

"It's going to be a long campaign, so we have to use our heads. The ✃ultimate goal for this new season is to fight for the title, so we shouldn't be thinking about winning in Qatar, but rather about being consi🌳stent throughout 2022.

"We will continue to work calmly, but always giving our 🎃best. We have to go step by step and, if we have the chance to fight for ❀victory, we will do it."
