The 1973 Holden Torana XU1 that carried Peter Brock to his maiden Australi♎an Touring Car title has been sold to a private enthusiast for a record prize of $500,000.

The co🃏nstruction company owner, from Melbourne's eastern suburbs🐠, had previously seen the car in storage and made an offer that couldn't be refused.

The car was owned by the family of Ian Tate, a former Holden Dealer Team engine bꦛuilder, and rebuilt to original specifica🦹tions and 1973 racing livery and featured in the Peter Brock Sandown tribute in September.

The Torana - which finished on the podium in all eight of its championship outings - is also famous for the 1973 Bathurst racꦍe, when it finished second in the hands of Brock and Doug Chivas despite the latter being forced to push it🦩 down pitlane when it ran out of fuel.

"I just had to ha🔯ve it," the new owner, wh𝔉o wishes to remain anonymous, said. "The Tates wanted the Torana to stay in Victoria and I'd been looking for that kind of car for a while.

"I'm really just the custodian for the next owner. The Tates can still display the car and run it at Historic race meetings as they have done in the past♉."

The previous highest priced Holden is thought to be a 1948 H💜olden FX prototype that sold for around $400,000 in 2001, and can now be found in Canberra's National Museum.
